Mary Margret’s been smoking cigarettes Driving too fast in a red Corvette Jerry Jeff is behind the wheel Trying no to think about his wife Camille Mary’s in town on a business trip She left back home her husband Cliff Jerry’s trying to hide his wedding ring Thinking to himself this is a one time thing Met in the hotel lobby bar Now ain’t that the way this kind of thing starts And Mary rarely takes a drink But she said “naw, what the hell, this is a one time thing” Half past one she invited him in Half past two they were doing it again Quarter to four room 303 A sad display of adultery They slept ’til noon then ordered some eggs Jerry paid the bill when the bellhop came Thinking to himself that he didn’t really care What bad can come from a secret love affair “Well, let’s go take a ride,” said Jerry Jeff “I got a Corvette that’s parked out back” Mary started to feel bad about this little fling But she said, “Ah, what the hell, it’s just a one time thing” Jerry dropped the top on that Corvette About the time he started to feel regrets Mary said, “Now let’s make a little deal I won’t tell Cliff if you won’t tell Camille” “I agree, I agree, your secret’s safe with me, Mary I have to admit I’ve been feeling kinda of guilty” With every year there’s a brand new spring But this is not like that this is a one time thing They made love again in the room that night But they must have sobered up ‘cause it just didn’t feel right When the second morning came they parted ways Good-bye, Good luck and a cold handshake Jerry went home and his clothes were all over the lawn Camille had been following him while he was gone She said, “That girl you were with, she looked like a horse” And, “I hope it was worth it because we’re getting divorced” Mary’s fate was late, but it came She forgot about the bill that was signed in Jerrys name When Cliff called the hotel asking about credit fraud Imagine his surprise with the answer he got It’s sad, I know, but it happens all the time There’s cheating on the husbands that are cheating on their wives If you listened to the words that I had to sing You know there’s no going back from a one time thing A one time thing A one time thing

River's Edge 04:00
When I found you down by the river’s edge You were clutching you anger like a baby to your breast Then I said that I just didn’t care But I was lying thru my teeth and I know that’s not fair Then I made a break for the spotlight and the stage Somehow strangers’ faces seemed to ease me and placate But then the words to the verses wouldn’t come So I stood there feeling naked while the amplifiers hummed Oh when it comes to loving I know you’ve got me covered But I’m going off the rails again And I’ll roll with the undiscovered And I fold in with a band of brothers When I’m going off the rails again You can send you’re letters in the mail And I’ll read them in the evening like I’m pulling back the veil On a world so vivid and so real I’m under you great spell again at least that’s how it feels Oh when it comes to loving I know you’ve got me covered But I’m going off the rails again And I’ll roll with the undiscovered And I fold in with a band of brothers When I’m going off the rails again Now Carridwen you’re with me once again Wadding in the water and we’re up to our chins I see you smile and I know that grin And I tell you all my secrets and the healing will begin And the healing will begin And the healing will begin And the healing will begin

Part of You 03:19
Took me by surprise but now I realize There’s a part of you Had to check the time and wipe the sleep out of my eyes To see that part of you Like a bird she flew taking orders from the moon I was whistling But those words ring true no reply no rendezvous Are you listening Listening Are you listening Listening Time’s ticking and you’re moving on Floating off so it seems Tom’s thinking that he knew all along Just what this song really means Took me by surprise but now I realize There’s a part of you Had to check the time and wipe the sleep out of my eyes To see that part of you wants no part of me at all Part of you wants no part of me at all

I’ve been taking myself too seriously So now I’m popping pills and drinking Irish whiskey Won’t you come up to see me Won’t you come up to see me On the top of the world but I know it’s only temporary I’ve got my head way up here in the clouds Don’t it all seem simple when you’re up on the top looking down It’s a temporary fix I know that’s all it is On the top of the world ’til reality kicks back in I’ve been taking myself too seriously So now I’m popping pills and drinking Irish whiskey Won’t you come up to see me Won’t you come up to see me Won’t you come up to see me On the top of the world but I know it’s only temporary

I tried to believe That you mean what you say Yes I tried but you lied Right to my face I wait in vain On the corner of heartache and Main You never came and I’m ashamed To play the fool in your game again You told me you gonna be here by nine But now it’s nine fifteen nine thirty nine forty five You told me you’d be right here bye my side But you lied why’d you lie I tried to believe That you mean what you say Yes I tried but you lied Right to my face To my face Oh you lied
